Cabo Polonio: Natural Mystic

Cabo Polonio
Cabo Polonio ("Cabo" meaning "cape") is one of the most stunning places in the country. It is located in the Department of Rocha, at only four hours away from the capital (montevideo) by bus or car. El Cabo was kept away from the route by the wildness of its sands. The beauty of its beaches, it rocky point and its moving dunes makes it really worth visiting. It ts a meeting point for youngsters, artists and dreamers from all arround, a unique place still living in peace with nature.

It is a rocky area of 30 hectareas elevating 15 metres over the atlantic. Both sides of the rocky point, lays two beaches, "la calavera" (the skull), and the "playa sur" (south beatch). Behind, the moving dunes paints an allways moving horizon.
El Cabo is great for walking around, and has some very special places to visit, including three islands: La Encatada, El islote y La Rasa. The islands are the shelter oif an enourmous colony of sea lions.
The Cape has no public lighting or running water. At night the atsmosphere of the town turns very special.
